How your phone is silently ruining your skin!

I am addicted to my phone. I literally can’t do without it. I take it with me everywhere, including the bathroom (Come on now, you do it too!). So when I discovered that it could be destroying my skin without my knowing, I was furious. Mad. Livid. You get the picture.

So now what? How am I supposed to live without uploading a selfie on Instagram?!

I did what any girl in my shoes would do. I googled it. After seeing some horrible stuff and freaking out some more, I called up my fav skin expert, who calmed me the heck down. Breathe in, breathe out.

So after a lot of chatting and researching (along with a panic attack thrown in for good measure), here’s everything you need to know.

How your mobile phone is ruining your skin.

Say hello to Blue Light – your skin’s new (kind of ) enemy.

Blue light has actually always been around – from the sun. You know, the nasty UV light that everyone warns you about? That annoying light you have to wear sunscreen for. Yup, that’s the same light coming out of your phone (and laptop).

We’ve literally brought harmful UV light into our homes!

Since our phones are much closer to us than the sun, you could end up with dark spots, pigmentation and fine lines without even stepping outside the house! Like, come on!

Your mobile phone is damaging your skin

The Phone vs The Sun.

So, millennials check their phones about 150 times a day and spend approx 10 hours of screen time a day (that’s freaking insane!). This means that we are exposed to more blue light now than we used to from the sun alone.

Blue light can really #*@$ up your skin.

So what exactly does blue light do to your skin you ask?
Well, it can cause dark spots, pigmentation, uneven skin tone, dark under-eye circles, fine lines and wrinkles! Basically, all the crap you don’t want happening to your skin.

Ok, so now to the part you really want to know…

How to protect your skin from BLUE LIGHT?

How your mobile phone is damaging your skin.

1. COVER YOUR PHONE WITH A BLUE LIGHT SCREEN SHIELD.

It’s an easy fix (and cheap too).

2. CHOOSE THE ‘YELLOW LIGHT’ OPTION ON YOUR PHONE.

Some smart phones have a setting that disables blue light and replaces it with yellow light (often called night mode or nightshift). Apart from being easier on your eyes, it’s now your skin saviour too.

3. WEAR SUNSCREEN INDOORS. 365 DAYS OF THE YEAR.

Yeah, it’s a pain. But just end your morning skincare routine with a blob of sunscreen and don’t think about it after that. Also, sunlight enters your home, office, car, train…so it’s just better to be protected.

Stuff I ♥️: Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+ is my go-to sunscreen as it gives tons of protection, dries down to a matte finish and is waterproof. What not to love?

4. ADD VITAMIN C TO YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE.

Vitamin C is a powerful anti-oxidant which helps undo past sun (and blue light) damage, fades dark spots and marks, evens out skin tone and reduces fine lines.

Stuff I ♥️: I use Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster with Pure Vitamin C 10% under my sunscreen every morning to keep my skin looking bright and even.
