Summer is probably when your skin looks its worst. It’s sweaty, sticky and greasy. Your pores look gigantic. You’re more prone to breakouts (thanks to your over-active oil-glands). And let’s not forgot that horrible patchy tan!
So, what’s a girl supposed to do to beat the heat????!
1. Switch to gels.
GEL face wash. GEL moisturizer. GEL sunscreen.
Wash your face with a GEL face wash that gently dissolves oil and unclogs pores.
But don’t over do it!
You should never wash more than 3 times a day. Any more, and your oil glands will go into overdrive and produce even more oil to make up for the loss of moisture. So you will end up greasier than you began!
And every time you wash, immediately (within 30 seconds) follow it up with a GEL moisturizer. A gel moisturizer cools your hot skin and adds moisture (that’s water, not oil). When your skin is thoroughly hydrated, it produces less oil. So a gel moisturizer will literally save your skin in summer.
If there’s one thing you should never ever do without in summer, it’s sunscreen. Pick a gel or sheer sunscreen that dries down to a matte finish. No grease. No shine. No aging.
Stuff I ❤️:
I’m obsessed with La Roche-Posay’s Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser. It deep cleans skin, is super gentle (perfect for sensitive skin) and leaves you feeling fresh and clean. If you want to know more about this awesome face wash, check out my review.
My favourite gel moisturizer is Forest Essential’s Light Hydrating Facial Gel Pure Rosewater. It’s absorbed by my skin in a jiffy, cools it down and makes it plump and bouncy.
The sunscreen I can’t do without is La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios SPF50+ Dry Touch Gel-Cream. It’s perfect for skin that’s oily, sensitive and tends to breakout. It leaves my skin without a shine, but with a glow. Love!
2. Increase the number of times you scrub.
In summer, your pores look bigger and you breakout more often.
That’s because your skin’s oil mixes with the dead skin cells and BOOM! Clogged pores!
When you scrub, you’re brushing away all the dead skin cells, before they get a chance to mix with the oil. So, you prevent breakouts even before they start.
Another benefit of scrubbing – it loosens the existing clogged pores, so your skin gets clearer faster.
But to reap the benefits, you should be scrubbing 2-3 times every week. Once is just not enough – not in summer at least.
Stuff I ❤️: Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-texturizing Micro Dermabrasion is brilliant! It’s kept my skin gunk-free and glowing through every season!
3. Make friends with a face mist. (And take it with you everywhere.)
When your skin is hot, it produces more sweat and oil. This means shinier skin, more clogged pores and more breakouts.
What you need is for your skin to stay cool. And that’s why a face mist is your summer skin lifesaver. Face Mists are made of water and gentle, skin-loving ingredients that cool and calm down your overheated skin. They also help reduce redness, add hydration (so your skin produces less oil) and instantly refresh your skin.
Stuff I ❤️: Forest Essentials Pure Rosewater Facial Toner and Panchpushp Facial Toner are my summer go-tos. I just spritz it over my face throughout the day for fresh, glowing skin.
4. Use a face mask with clay or charcoal.
Masks made out of clay or charcoal do 2 awesome things that save skin in the sweltering heat. They:
- Soak up excess oil.
- Cool the skin down.
This means less grease, less shine, less clogged pores, less pimples.
Use a mask 1-2 times a week. But don’t let it dry completely and crack even though it feels so good. If the mask starts to crack, it means it has sucked up too much oil (and moisture) and your skin will overcompensate and start making more oil, defeating the whole purpose!
Instead, apply it all over your face and let it dry slightly (5 minutes max). Then rinse it off with cool water and follow it up with your gel moisturizer.
Stuff I ❤️: Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask is fabulous at absorbing the gunk, while leaving your skin clear and glowing. I also adore Markalak by Pahadi Local. It mops away all the oil, while adding skin-loving minerals back into my skin. Fab!
