1. Double cleanse for clear skin.

The wretched camera catches every flaw. So if you want great glowing skin, start with the basics – cleansing. To get the perfect canvas, your skin needs to be deep cleaned. Just your regular facewash won’t do the job. You need to ‘double cleanse’.

What the heck is that? As the name suggests, it’s about cleansing your skin twice. Once, with a cleansing oil that dissolves all the dirt, oil, sweat, sunscreen and makeup, followed by your face wash that makes sure nothing is left over. Your skin will be super clean and whatever products you use afterwards will be better absorbed.

2. Exfoliate to get even-toned, pore-free skin.

The last thing you want standing out in your selfie are pores the size of craters. Keep your pores in check by exfoliating your skin to remove dead skin cells that clog your pores. Your skin will look smoother, more even-toned and energized. Woot!

3. Put on a face mask for that glamorous glow.

If you want your skin to really glow in your selfie, you need to find the right face mask for your skin type.
Oily skin: A clay face mask that removes all the excess oil and deep cleans your pores.
Dry skin: A sheet mask drenched in moisture-rich serum that will hydrate and plump your dull skin.
Sensitive skin: A mask containing skin-soothing ingredients like chamomile, cucumber, aloe vera to reduce redness and irritation.
Normal skin: A brightening mask that gives your skin that much-needed glow.

4. Moisturize your skin to highlight your best features.

No celebrity would be caught dead without a moisturizer. And who understands cameras better than celebs? They know that a camera will pick up lines and imperfections that you normally wouldn’t even notice with your naked eye.

A moisturizer makes your skin look plump, bouncy, youthful and even blurs tiny blemishes by reflecting light. It’s like Photoshop for your skin! So make sure your skin is properly hydrated before snapping yourself.

Tip: Just before taking a selfie, dab some extra moisturizer (or serum) on the top of your cheekbones, temples and eyelids to highlight and contour your face.

5. Blot your oily zone.

As you know, it’s super important to moisturize your skin, but you also don’t want to look greasy. So after you’ve moisturized properly, blot your T-zone with a tissue so that the camera doesn’t pick up on that not-so-good shine.

 6. Dab on some eye-cream to brighten eyes.

An eye-cream will instantly plump up the delicate skin around your eyes to make fine lines disappear, reduce dark circles and make your eyes look brighter.

Tip: Keep your eye cream in the fridge. The cold temperature constricts blood vessels instantly depuffing your under-eye bags and reducing your dark circles.

7. Make sure your eyebrows are groomed.

Well-groomed brows can do wonders to frame the face. A thicker brow looks more natural and youthful versus an over-tweezed one, so just remove the strays.

Prior to taking your selfie, use a brow-comb to tidy your brows. Add some aloe gel before combing them to set them in place and add shine.

8. Get thick long sexy lashes…naturally.

How do you get long luscious lashes without mascara? Castor Oil to the rescue!
Just dip a clean, unused mascara wand into some castor oil and coat your lashes. Your eyelashes will instantly look longer and thicker!

Tip: You can cheat by using an eyelash curler before you coat with castor oil. Technically, you’re not using any makeup!

9. Sport a full, sexy pout.

No selfie is complete without a killer pout. And when you’re drawing attention to your lips, you got to make sure they are in perfect condition. No one wants to see flaky, chapped, cracked lips. Yikes!

Rock the duck face by gently brushing your lips every night with your toothbrush. It removes any dry flaky skin to reveal pink, healthy skin underneath. Just remember to immediately follow up with a thick, moisturizing lip balm that nourishes and plumps your puckers.

Tip: Right before taking your selfie, massage your lip balm into your lips using gentle but firm circular movements. Do this for at least half a minute to improve blood circulation, so your lips look instantly plumper, fuller and pinker.

10. Find your light.

The trick to getting the perfect natural selfie is finding the perfect light.

Direct overhead lighting (usually found in clubs and restaurants) is a selfie killer. It will make your hair glossy but will cast a huge shadow on your face.
If it’s noon and the sun is overhead, the shadows can look like bags under your eyes. Not a great time to strike a pose!

It’s always a good idea to point your face towards a light for more even toned skin and to avoid those nasty shadows that accentuate your under-eye circles and bags.

If you’re outdoors, time your selfies to the golden hours (just after sunrise or right before sunset). The light is low and beautiful then.
If you’re indoors, go to the window and face the sunlight that’s streaming in for soft, even skin.

Tip: Hold a white paper below your chin (crop it out later). It will make the light bounce and brighten your skin, while also reducing any double chin. Magic!

11. Work your best angle.

When it comes to finding the best angles for a selfie, the safest option is to keep your chin down and hold the camera slightly higher that face level. It will make your features look more structured and streamlined. But don’t let that one trick stop you from trying multiple different angles to find out which works best for you. And once you find your best side, go ahead and make that your signature move.

Now that you’re selfie-ready, all you need to do is upload your picture. ‘Likes’ are guaranteed!
