So you cleanse, tone, moisturise and use sunscreen. Good girl. But here’s a list of stuff you’re probably doing that’s aging you without you even knowing!
1. Sipping from a straw.
It may look cute and sexy, but it’s actually aging you!
The puckering motion creates those dreaded fine line around the lips, especially if you’re drinking from a straw regularly. Just stick to drinking straight out of a glass.
2. Not wearing sunglasses.
Sunglasses are more than a fashion statement. They are a fabulous anti-wrinkle tool. When you step out into the harsh sunlight without a pair of glasses, you tend to squint and frown. Squinting causes crow’s feet and frowning causes lines on your forehead. Yikes!
3. Sleeping on your side or stomach.
Sinking your face into that pillow seems like the perfect thing to do at the end of a long day, but did you know it’s making you look older? What???!!! How?!
When you sleep sideways or on your tummy, your face is pressed against the pillow for 6-8 hours. This causes creases and lines to form, while the poor blood circulation causes those horrid dark circles.
So now what to do? Sleep on your back. It takes a little getting used to at first, but it literally makes you younger. I think it’s worth a shot!
4. Your hair is all at one length.
This is one of the most common mistakes girls make. When all your hair is at one length, it will make any facial line stand out, making you look years older.
By simply adding a few layers, you can literally take years off of you. That’s because layers give you that awesome youthful bounce and movement. Don’t worry, you don’t have to chop too much of your hair. Just cut a few long layers that remove the extra weight from the bottom half of your hair, so that it can swing and bounce. Like in a shampoo ad 🙂
5. Rubbing your eyes.
Yes, you’re sleepy. You’re yearning for that cup of caffeine. But DO NOT rub your eyes!
Every time you rub your eyes, you’re causing trauma to the eyelid and under-eye area, causing the tiny capillaries to burst. This makes the skin around your eyes turn red (and blue), making you look even more fatigued. And over time, much older.
Another reason why you shouldn’t rub: You’re also making your eyelashes weaker and more prone to breaking. And everyone knows that thick, long eyelashes make you look more youthful. So keep your digits away from your eyes.
6. Wearing dull colours.
Your skin reflects the colours you wear. Which is why peaches and pinks pump up your skin – giving it a youthful glow, while greys and lavenders can make it look tired, dull and pale – in other words, older!
7. Applying mascara on your lower lashes.
Surprised???!!!!!
When you apply mascara on your lower lashes, you’re actually drawing unwanted attention to your dark circles and fine lines – adding a few extra years on you.
If you want to look doe-eyed and make your eyes pop, just curl your top eyelashes and coat them generously with mascara – starting at the roots with a wriggling outward motion. This will make your eyes look whiter, bigger, younger.
8. Not moisturizing your neck and décolletage.
One of the biggest mistakes you can make is not treating your neck and chest the same way you treat your face. A wrinkly and spotty neck and décolleté is a dead give-away of your age, even if your face is still smooth.
Your neck and décolleté show aging much before your face does. That’s because the skin on the neck and chest is way thinner than on your face, so damage is much more obvious and harder to repair.
So always remember, what goes on your face must also go on your neck, all the way down to your breasts – especially the moisturizer and sunscreen.
